Welcome
Now that climate change is an undeniable fact, the focus on alternative energy sources has sharpened considerably.
Solar energy is a renewable power source which, when harnessed, can be converted into heat to generate hot water for the home, reducing domestic carbon dioxide emissions and global warming.
Solar hot water systems have been available in the UK since the 1970s. the technology is now well developed, with a large choice of equipment to suit many applications.
Baxi Heating UK is committed to producing sustainable heating solutions with excellent environmental credentials. The Baxi Solarflo package offers a combination of high quality solar panels, controls and a purpose designed Duplex stainless steel twin coil solar cylinder from Heatrae Sadia, the UKs leading hot water cylinder manufacturer.
Planning Permission
Before commencing the installation of a solar heating system, it is recommended that you seek the opinion of your local authority. Requirements vary from one authority to another. Your local planning office will be able to advise whether Planning Permission is required for your installation.
Solar Water Heating
Solar powered domestic hot water systems consists of three main components: Solar Collector Panels, a Hot Water Cylinder and a Heat Transfer System.
The roof-mounted solar panels contain collectors which absorb and retain heat from the sun's rays and transfer it to a fluid. The installation requires 2 - 6m² of southeast-to southwest-facing roof space recieving direct sunlight for the main part of the day.
The fluid is circulated through a specially designed solar coil in the base of the hot water cylinder where it transfers its heat to the stored water before being pumped back to the collectors in the solar panel to be re-heated. The design of the solar coil allows maximum heat transfer to be achieved ensuring that the system is being used to its full potential.
The heat transfer system consists of an electronic controller and a pump station which moves the heated fluid around the system.
